Sweet Taste of Success for ACT

A Pembrokeshire businesswoman has branched out into the world of chocolate – thanks to Ireland Wales Programme-funded business initiative!

Leeann Smith, a Welsh entrepreneur, joined the INSPIRE project with a view to expanding her business portfolio from web design to chocolatier.

The INSPIRE project was set up in 2012 by Pembrokeshire County Council in Wales and the Institute of Technology, Carlow in Ireland to foster idea generation among innovators, entrepreneurs and, through intensive mentoring, to help bring ideas to market.

It is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Programme 2007-13.

After exploring a couple of ideas she came up with the tasty idea of making her own chocolates.  She created her own chocolate recipes in the workshops and by using a specialist printer is able to personalise and commercially brand her goods.

Her tasty diversion has certainly paid off and Leeann has attracted variety of local and national clients and ships worldwide directly from the company website, www.chocolatesbyme.co.uk.  Leeann’s most recent success is to supply to the national Mercure hotel chain (UK).

“I just love making chocolates and am delighted that the products are so well liked,” said Leeann, “the enquiries have been amazing, so I am looking now to take the next step up and expand using larger machinery.”

Peter Lord, Inspire project manager, said he was delighted at Leeann’s success.

“This is wonderful news. Leeann is evidence that real passion and hard work can lead to success.  In truth this is something that business support cannot teach.  We provided the tools and support she needed, but she put in the imagination and leg work.”
